I Will Be Your Fortress

A late Christmas present had arrived in the mail.  Eagerly, it was opened to reveal…

A Spanish-English Bible.

As we were looking through God’s Word in two languages, we came to Psalm 46:1, and there for the English words…

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble,”

We found this translation…

“Dios es nuestro amparo y nuestra fortaleza, nuestra ayuda segura en momentos de angustia.”

The word “amparo” means protection, and the word “Fortaleza” means strength.

As I was reflecting on these words a picture came to my mind of how in many past generations, a home country would build a fort of strength in a strategic place to protect that which was theirs.

In the same way, God Most High has designated Himself to be a fort of refuge to protect that which is His own…

You.

Me.

It is because He has said…

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”‭‭ (Isaiah‬ ‭43:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬)

That we can say…

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm‬ ‭46:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬)
