Drinking Deeply from the Spring that Does Not Run Dry (Lessons from Voice Like Rushing Waters)

Every spring as the temperatures begin to warm, the earth exchanges her robe of glittering white for the green garment…

Of life.

Trees that stood silent in sleep for the months of winter begin to awaken as the warmth of the ground begins to bring circulation back into their roots, trunks and branches.  As the sun climbs higher into the sky, the light of her rays enables the trees to begin to put forth small buds that soon open to reveal the green, delicate beginnings…

Of life.

Flowers, grass, and trees all drink deep of the waters provided by the melting snow and spring rains that provide moisture for the earth.  This water is essential so that the plants are revived, replenished, refreshed and strengthened so that they can…

Live life.

But remove this water and the plants will begin to suffer.  The colorful flowers that once filled the air with a fragrant aroma begin to droop.  The green leaves that quiver and dance as the fingers of the wind brush past them start to shrivel.  The emerald carpet that blankets the ground begins to wilt as it exchanges its vibrant color of life for a drab cloak of brown.

The simple truth is water is essential for the sustenance…

Of life.

This week as I have had the opportunity to listen to the voice of the small stream that winds its way down to Symphony Corner, I have been reflecting much on the verse from Revelation 1:15b where John describes the voice of Jesus as the sound of rushing waters.

Just as trees need to drink deeply of the water that sustains them…

I need to drink deeply from the waters of He whose voice is like the sound of rushing waters.

In fact, when I learn to delight in and meditate on the words that God Himself has spoken – the truth found in His word – I will be like a tree that is planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in its season, whose leaf does not wither and will prosper in all that he does (Psalm 1).

By sinking my roots deeply into the words of my Sovereign King and Loving Father, God Himself sustains through difficult and confusing times…revives me during times of drought…refreshes me when I am weary…anchors and strengthens me when buffeted by trials that threaten to uproot me…comforts me when events leave me reeling in pain and sorrow…guides me when I don’t know what steps to take…

In short, when I choose to sink my roots deep into and anchor them in the truth that God has revealed in His Word, I will be revived, replenished, refreshed and strengthened…

By He whose voice is like the sound of rushing waters.

And His spring of water never runs dry:D
