The Voice That Can’t Be Overpowered (Lessons from Voice Like Rushing Waters)

Tis springtime on the ranch!

And for us and many other ranchers around us this means it is…

Calving time!

And while watching the calves play tag as they run through the pastures with their tails straight up in the air is a delightful sight…

There is another part of calving that is not such a delight to the ears:D

I don’t know how many decibels a mother cow’s voice is…

But I can testify that it has enough force to leave one’s ears ringing!

Now imagine one cow’s bellow multiplied by about a hundred cows all joining in a not so joyful refrain…

And you can imagine the commotion I heard this morning as I journeyed to Symphony Corner!

Needless to say the usual quiet of the morning was gigantously interrupted:D  No longer did I hear the songbirds lift heavenward their songs of praise!

In their place I heard the bawling and hollering of a “melodious” choir of cows:D

But, as I drew nearer to this usually quiet corner, I slowed down and tried to listen through the cowabaloo…

And do you know what I heard?

The sound of the rushing water.

Even the raised, disquieted voices of a herd of singing mother cows could not override or drown out the voice of the rushing water.

In fact…

Their blaring voices helped me to be still so that I could distinguish the voice of the rushing water amidst their loud racket!

As I have been reflecting on this, I am reminded that regardless of the voices – the demanding, angry, confusing, loud, sorrowful, chaotic, questioning, fearful, discouraging, worrying, anxious, wondering, doubting – that I hear in my daily life…

There is one voice full of words of truth that can never be drowned out.

He whose voice is like the sound of rushing waters….God Almighty!

Yes, sometimes I must be still to hear His words of truth, when so many other voices are demanding my attention.

But here is the thing…

Nothing can overwhelm the power of His voice…

Nothing can overpower His words of truth…

Nothing can nullify His promises.

He who is God Almighty is the One whose power and strength is behind every word that He has spoken.

Now, there are some days when to hear the words of God’s truth is easy…and they are not too hard to hang onto.

But then there are other days…

When it seems like there is a herd of one hundred clamoring cows charging around in my mind, and another herd of the same size on the outside!

And it can be soooo hard to hear the quiet voice of God in the midst of the commotion!

But remember, that He who calmed the storm by simply speaking three words – Peace, be still – is the same One who can speak His words of truth into any situation that you are facing.

And this is why – regardless of whatever challenges you are facing – if you take time to ask, to seek and to knock you will find that He will bring direct your heart and your mind to a word of truth or promise or instruction or words of comfort that, in that moment, are just what you need.

So when you find yourself about to be stampeded over by the demands, challenges, trials, weaknesses, fears, hardships – whatever you are facing –

Take time to stop…to be still…and to listen for…

He whose voice is like the sound of rushing waters.

He will be there and He will provide you with what you need:D
